Nilofar experienced complications with her pregnancy towards the end of her last trimester. She was suddenly hospitalised and needed two months’ leave. Says she, “In other organisations, either you have to rush to get multiple approvals from seniors or bear a heavy deduction from your salary. I am grateful as a Tata Chemicals employee; I was granted leave without bearing any of these repercussions.”
Nilofar entered motherhood knowing that she would be able to spend the next 18 months with her child without worrying about going to the office. Tata Chemicals’ Infant Care Policy states that female employees can work from home for 18 months after the child’s birth.
Says Nilofar: “As a company, we clearly take a lead in such policies. This is exactly the kind of maternity leave policy that any female employee can expect from her company.” Caring is clearly a key element of the employee-company relationship.
