Care is reciprocal

Adam Harlow, Financial Analyst, Tata Chemicals (Soda Ash) Partners

Tata has cared for its employees and in turn, the employees care about Tata. This principle of care for the community, customers and employees has been a driving force of what makes Tata great. As Tata has continued to invest in its employees through training initiatives and programmes such as Lean Six Sigma, the employees have grown to care for Tata.

The return of this care can clearly be seen in the many social media outlets within Tata companies.

I have participated in several of the Tata Group Twitter competitions such as ‘FotoFriday’ and ‘CoverShot’ and this care for Tata is clearly seen as I receive friendly tweets and comments from other Tata employees all around the world eager to share something they love. It is a joy to be a part of a company that has laid the ground¬work for employees who can care so much.

Caring for mothers

Nilofar Sheikh, Business Development Manager, Mumbai

Nilofar experienced complications with her pregnancy towards the end of her last trimester. She was suddenly hospitalised and needed two months’ leave. Says she, “In other organisations, either you have to rush to get multiple approvals from seniors or bear a heavy deduction from your salary. I am grateful as a Tata Chemicals employee; I was granted leave without bearing any of these repercussions.”

Nilofar entered motherhood knowing that she would be able to spend the next 18 months with her child without worrying about going to the office. Tata Chemicals’ Infant Care Policy states that female employees can work from home for 18 months after the child’s birth.

Says Nilofar: “As a company, we clearly take a lead in such policies. This is exactly the kind of maternity leave policy that any female employee can expect from her company.” Caring is clearly a key element of the employee-company relationship.
