“I joined this company as a Trainee Engineer on 20th July 1979. It was 3 o’clock on a Friday. And I've been associated with the company either as an employee or as a board member since then, nonstop. Now I am the Vice Chairman. That's 44 years! And I must say I have enjoyed my stay. The company sponsored me in terms of my training, sending me out of the country. It was called ICI then. I got trained in the UK, and then I came back here. I also went back to the UK to work for the company for two years in Cheshire and then I came back here. I got married. My children are born here, went to school here. So at the end of the day, Magadi is part of my life. I feel very proud about it.”

“I believe education is really the key to a sustainable future in terms of maintaining our environment, but also enhancing our livelihood opportunities. Most importantly, other than the buildings and the infrastructure, we need people committed to pursuing education, the mentors who can show students that you can do something with education. I would like to urge the parents in Kajiado, especially Maasai parents, that they need to pay particular attention to the girls. The girls require support to get through school. Educating a girl is educating the society.”

“Besides being in a management job, I think one thing that stands out is the interaction with the community. As you may be aware, we are nested in this community, this Masai, and it is our belief that it is the blessings of the community which keep us going. This company is about 110 years old, and for 110 years, we have co-existed with the community, we help each other. We have lived with each other for so long without any issues being raised or coming up in the recent past. We do as Tata Chemicals Magadi in a way it is very similar to what Tata Steel does back in India, we run a hospital, supply water to the community, and support education.”
