Empowering Rural Women: TCSRD's vibrant celebration of International Women's Day in Mithapur

Mithapur, 12 March 2024 | Tata Chemicals Society for Rural Development (TCSRD) joyously marked International Women's Day at Mithapur just like it has done over many years, celebrating the women of Okhamandal and Kalyanpur blocks. N. Kamath, Chief Manufacturing Officer & Plant Head (Mithapur), Tata Chemicals Limited graced the event, attended by about 1,460 women from 182 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) representing 31 villages.

This year under the theme Invest in women: Accelerate progress, the festivities unfolded at the TCSRD Ground in Mithapur, where women gathered to rejoice their collective and individual accomplishments as well as showcasing their talent and contributions.

The event curated by TCSRD staff had various sections where - videos highlighting the achievements and contribution by women of Okhamandal and Kalyanpur blocks in volunteering work, entrepreneurship, combating injustice, etc. were played and a platform was provided to the women to showcase their artistic abilities. As a part of digital empowerment initiative, the women were taught and encouraged to create a powerpoint presentation highlighting their activities and achievements. This was first time ever that they used any such presentation tool. All these initiatives not only helped them demonstrate their capabilities but also provided a great boost to their confidence.

N. Kamath, Chief Manufacturing Officer & Plant Head at Mithapur, commented on the event, stating, "We recognize the transformative impact of investing in women. Through our International Women's Day celebration in Mithapur, we not only honor women's achievements but also emphasize the crucial role of empowering rural women in accelerating progress. Events like these reflect our commitment to fostering a more equitable society, and we remain dedicated to empowering women for sustainable growth and development."

The empowerment-focused event included cultural activities with role plays on women's empowerment, gender equality, girl child education, and environmental conservation. Besides this, a fashion show was organized to showcase apparels crafted and embellished by women artisans and twenty five stalls were setup to display various handcrafted products as well as provide information on various government schemes that could benefit women.

The occasion celebrated the remarkable efforts of nine women who were honored for their outstanding volunteer work in community development. Additionally, the contributions of other distinguished achievers were acknowledged through the presentation of prizes.

Through this event, TCSRD not only reiterated its commitment to empowering women and fostering their growth but also reaffirmed working steadfastly towards a more equitable and inclusive society.
