Magadi, September 25, 2023 — Tata Chemicals and Magadi proudly hosted its Annual Education Day, a heartfelt celebration that honored exceptional academic accomplishments, highlighted key educational issues, and demonstrated unwavering commitment to advancing education in the region.
The education program is a collaborative effort involving the local community, the Kajiado County Government, the National Government, and various stakeholders. It is dedicated to enhancing the quality and delivery of education in the Magadi region. This initiative recognizes and rewards outstanding schools, educators, and students through a competitive and equitable selection process, engaging both the company management and community leaders.

Dr. Stephen Moiko, Chairman of the Education Committee, noted the company's crucial role in education support, particularly in light of the region's low number of students meeting the admission criteria for national schools and universities. He expressed concerns about the disproportionately low enrollment of girls in schools, further compounded by high dropout rates among them.
The Kajiado County Deputy Governor Martin Moshisho also graced the occasion and commended Tata Chemicals Magadi for its significant dedication and contribution to community development.
Dr. Nchorira Naikuni, a lecturer at the Maasai Mara University and the Chief Guest lauded the company's substantial contributions to education in Kajiado County. He emphasized the need to enhance the student rate of transition from the Maa community into higher education institutions. Dr. Naikuni also stressed the need to reevaluate the performance of teachers in Maa counties, including Kajiado, Narok, and Laikipia, with potential reforms by the government.
Jeremiah Ncharo, the County Education CEC, praised the company for its role in elevating educational standards, which he believes will help increase the percentage of students in Kajiado County gaining admission to public universities, currently at only 14 percent.
During the awards ceremony, Magadi Soda School, run by the company, stood out for its exceptional performance, topping the results in the entire County. Memusi School and emerging secondary schools such as Oloika and Oldonyo-Onyoike received recognition. Several regional education leaders were also honored during the event.
More than a thousand joyful boys and girls graced the event, showcasing their talents through a captivating array of musical performances, traditional dances, poetry recitals, and individual presentations.
